of Lewis Richmond

MUSICIAN AND COMPOSER

"For most of my life, I have had two clear and abiding loves--for Buddhism and for music.  What these two disciplines share, in my mind, is that both express the deepest realm of the human spirit in a way that is beyond words, that speaks directly to and from the heart.  I now offer these original keyboard compositions in the spirit of that wordless communion.  May they bring joy and contemplative harmony to all those who listen to them."  -- Lewis Richmond

BUDDHIST TEACHER

Chikudo Lewis Richmond is a direct disciple of Zen Buddhist Master Shunryu Suzuki Roshi, and a lineage holder in his tradition.  Lew founded the Vimala Sangha in 2003 as a vehicle for the continuation of Suzuki-Roshi's teaching, and as a way to develop "Householder Zen"--the path of Zen practice and teaching by people leading busy lives, with job, home, and family.  For more about the Vimala Sangha, click here:

The greatest thing for a human being is to find joy in your work.

from WORK AS A SPIRITUAL PRACTICE.

How wonderful it was to be alive!

How wonderful to be surrounded by loved ones who are always there for you, whatever happens.

from HEALING LAZARUS

What is our most important work? What are we doing here in this world, where each of us arrives, naked and helpless, with no map or compass, like a trainee in some cosmic Outward Bound program?

What is our responsibility--to ourselves, to our family and friends, to our community, our nation, to all people and the innumerable creatures that inhabit the earth, the sea and the sky?

In other words, what is our Whole Life's Work?
